Compressible and Viscous Effects in Transonic Planar Flow around a Circular Cylinder—A Numerical Analysis Based on a Commercially Available CFD Tool

چکیده

Transonic planar flows around a circular cylinder are investigated numerically for laminar and turbulent flow conditions with Reynolds numbers of 50≤ReD≤300 8890≤ReD≤ 80,000 free stream Mach in the range 0.2≤Ma∞≤2. A commercially available CFD tool is used validated this purpose. The results show that phenomena occurring can be grouped into eight regimes. Compared to incompressible regimes, several new found. In contrast, at higher Ma∞ 0.6≤Ma∞≤0.8 vortices wake suppressed ReD=50. some cases, Ma∞=0.8 ReD≥300, λ-shocks formed near wake. For supersonic Ma∞, two different observed. Beside well-known oblique detached shocks, instabilities downstream cylinder. Furthermore, temporal mean drag coefficient C¯D, Strouhal number Str, as well critical Macrit calculated from simulation interpreted.

Numerical Computation of a Viscous Flow around a Circular Cylinder on a Cartesian Grid

We introduce a novel cut-cell Cartesian grid method that preserves the spectral properties of convection and diffusion. That is, convection is discretised by a skewsymmetric operator and diffusion is approximated by a symmetric positive-definite coefficient matrix. Such a symmetry-preserving discretisation of the Navier-Stokes equations is stable on any grid, and conserves the mass, momentum an...

direct numerical simulation of supersonic and transonic compressible viscous flow by kinetic energy preserving scheme

present paper investigates the numerical solution of two-dimensional unsteady compressible navier-stokes equations by a new scheme based on the finite volume method. kinetic energy preserving (kep) scheme is introduced for solving the supersonic and transonic external compressible flow field on very fine grids (with a number of cells of the order of the reynolds number) without artificial dissi...

Flow Visualization Around a Non - Circular Tube

The flow behavior around a cam shaped tube in cross flow has been investigated experimentally using flow visualization and pressure distribution measurement. The range of attack angle and Reynolds number based on an equivalent circular diameter are within 0 ≤ α ≤ 360˚ and 2 x 104 < Reeq < 3.4 x 104, respectively. The pressure drag features are clarified in relation to the flow behavior around t...

A numerical study of electrohydrodynamic flow analysis in a circular cylindrical conduit using orthonormal Bernstein polynomials

In this work, the nonlinear boundary value problem in electrohydrodynamics flow of a fluid in an ion-drag configuration in a circular cylindrical conduit is studied numerically. An effective collocation method, which is based on orthonormal Bernstein polynomials is employed to simulate the solution of this model. Some properties of orthonormal Bernstein polynomials are introduced and utilized t...
